You are welcome.
Happy New Year!!
Thank you for taking the time to do these little videos. My mother-in-law (78 yrs old) just gave me a beautiful unfinished wool granny square quilt that she started 35+ years ago. I said I would love to finish it but I have never mastered the granny square! It looks so easy but for some reason I lose count every time I get to the 3rd or 4th round. (could it be my two little sons distracting me?!). These videos really help to make sense of the basic concept of how it works.
It sounds to me as though you may be missing the corner increases. With any type of square, there is going to be an increase at the corner that will include additional stitches and chains. I have this square and the standard granny square in the form of symbol instructions. It may help you to understand the stitch placement and recognize what you may be doing different.
I cannot for the life of me do this. I have probably watched every how to video on granny squares on youtube. I always end up with some wreath looking thing. =-[
You can make the granny pattern any size that you want to. I have come across patterns for 6, 7 and 12 inches squares. I have used a size G, H, or I size hook for the squares. I will send you the link to the traditional granny pattern.
